JOSIE YGNATOWIZ
Josie Ygnatowiz is currently pursing a B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies and a B.A. in Political Economy at UC Berkeley. On campus, she is a research assistant at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies and is a Fung Fellow for Wellness & Technology Innovations at the Center for Public Health Practice. Her focus lies in Turkish economic development, politics and strategy post-World War I as the nation’s unique history and geographic location becomes increasingly critical to international politics and security. She was a Summer 2015 Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellow and Summer 2016 recipient of the U.S. State Department Turkish Critical Language Scholarship. She works with groups on campus, such as the Euphrates Institute and Delta Phi Epsilon, a Foreign Service Fraternity, to promote cultural awareness, philosophical discussions and critical thinking to answer the question: “But what can we do here?” You can tune in to KALX 90.7 FM to catch her reading morning news or playing Kurdish music on her late-night DJ sets.
