Alexander Chemey

Alexander (Sasha) Chemey is currently an undergraduate student at Michigan State University pursuing a BS in Chemistry. His research at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory involves simulating a novel detector for detecton of radioactive xenon isotopes, such as those produced by a covert nuclear weapons test. Sasha is also pursuing a BA in Political Theory in Constitutional Democracy (PTCD), where his work addresses science policy, structures of science cooperation for policymaking, and the relationship between science and government. He will be graduating with both degrees in the spring of 2015. Currently, he is working with Dr. Sean Liddick at MSU/NSCL on his detector research, and Dr. Kevin Elliott on his policy work. Sasha is particularly interested in radiation and chemistry-related policy questions, both in specific and general (theoretical) cases. A new member of the NPWG, he hopes to continue his work for many years to come. In his free time, he is a member of the ACLU of Lansing Executive Board, is appointed to the East Lansing city government's Human Relations Commission, and is a member of the Gerald R. Beckwith Civil Liberties Fund. He is committed to non-discrimination and actively advocates for civil liberties.
